I am no longer getting the infinitely spawning issue and stuff is shown as being installing in the Windows Update windows.ĭidn't see the comment about the PowerShell "Get-WindowsUpdateLog" comment before deleting the folder, so not sure if that would have changed what I am seeing now which is: PS C:\Users\Me> Get-WindowsUpdateLogĬonverting C:\WINDOWS\logs\WindowsUpdate into D:\Users\Me\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.log. However, deleting all of the files in %windir%\SoftwareDistribution seems to have fixed things. If I am the OP, I will decide if a post actually answers my post or not. I don't mind someone marking a post as "Proposed as answer", but DO NOT mark it as "Answered". I just want this to stop as it interferes with my productivity! >:( What can I do to help you guys figure out what's happening? I've some dump files if you want them (a mini and a full).

The only workaround is to kill the process, which affects updates, so I would rather MS fix the issue than ignore it. I have finally been able to isolate which svchost process it is by isolating the different services, and it turns out that it was the Update Orchestrator Service.

Of 1/n where n is the number of cores, so my computer is still usable, but this problem has never really been addressed. Luckily, when we moved to multicore processors, the problem was isolated to only one or distributed evenly across them but throttled to the maximum

The problem is that eventually, I find that the svchost process starts to eat up the CPU and memory. This is a problem has been going on for multiple Window generations (I think I first saw this in Windows 7) and has been on again and off again problem that has really pissed me off!
